The bed motion was a simple crank and rod movement, in common with most stop-cylinders, where the bed driving gear is constantly engaged with the bed, driving it backwards and forwards, dispensing with the need for the switching of gears (or tumbling around ends) in the manner of the conventional two-revolution principle. To imitate the constant velocity action of the two-revolution bed motion however, a unique elliptical gearing was incorporated, as can be seen in the picture. [The machining of these odd shaped gears must have tested the competence of the engineers!]. To offset the strain on the reversing action, two sets of air springs (buffers) were incorporated either end. The ink fountain  was somewhat unusual also, not being bolted fixedly to the frames, but could be tilted to any angle, forcing the ink onto the fountain roller, preventing colour from working light. The impression cylinder, grippers, guides etc were standard two-revolution style. An extra set of roller stocks, hard cylinder packings, slitter, counter, press tools and steam fixtures or motor pulley were supplied with the machine.
Popular machine range in the U.S.A.
