Could this be the reason?
Hoe initially produced this machine as a 'two-feeder' newspaper press.  His improvements included a set of rollers and fountains for both ends (earlier models had one set only positioned between the cylinders inking both formes), improving inking quality. The impression cylinder rotated three revolutions for every one bed movement. Unlike the one and two-revolution machines, the impression cylinder utilised most of the circumference for actual printing, thereby enabling it to have a smaller diameter. The single feeder (above) was introduced a short time later, obviously utilising many components of the double.
This Hoe-built machine, served a rather special niche in the American and Canadian newspaper field.
