The type bed was fixed to the rear frame and did not oscillate to and fro like many other makes. The difference was the platen, with conventional rocking (tilting) motion, was mounted to long supports mounted and hinged to the front and base of the frame (instead of the back) which were driven by large geared cranks, connected to conventional drawbars. The action, peculiar to these presses, enabled a wide opening and substantial feed-board dwell. On the 3 smaller sizes, the bed could be adjusted by a wedge, the withdrawal of which drew the bed back from both, or either, the rollers or platen, an advantage possessed by no other ink-distributing press, or so it was claimed! This wedge, controlled by an adjusting screw, could be used to alter the overall impression also.
